The 6th Cross-Strait Economic and Trade Culture Forum was held in Guangzhou from July 10th to 11th. With the theme of “strengthening cooperation in emerging industries and enhancing cross-strait competitiveness”, the forum has carried out research on cooperation in new energy industries, energy conservation and environmental protection industries.
At the opening ceremony on July 10, Jia Qinglin, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, pointed out: "To jointly promote cross-strait scientific and technological progress and innovation in strengthening economic cooperation, we can take the cooperation between new energy and environmental protection industries as a breakthrough." It is believed that the two sides of the strait have achieved different degrees of progress in both the new energy and energy conservation and environmental protection industries, and they have certain advantages. Some technologies are at the world's leading level, and the prospects for future cooperation are very broad.

In order to advocate the concept of energy conservation and environmental protection, the participants of the forum did not wear suits and tie, and the air conditioner was set at around 27 degrees Celsius. Wang Yi, director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the CPC Central Committee and the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, said that this shows that the distance between us is getting closer and that we are willing to respond to the requirements of the era of energy conservation and environmental protection with concrete actions.

In the two-day forum, more than 400 people from the industrial, scientific, energy, and environmental industries in the two sides of the strait have discussed in the fields of emerging industries.

At present, the development of a low-carbon economy has become the consensus of all countries in the world. As environmental and energy issues deepen, major countries in the world are stepping up their efforts to develop emerging industries. In the United States, the European Union and Japan and other countries and regions, the development of new energy, new materials, biotechnology and information technology industries have received high attention. The development of emerging industries has important strategic significance for enhancing the country's comprehensive strength and promoting economic transformation.

Last year, Taiwan launched six emerging industry plans for biotechnology, tourism, green energy, healthcare, refined agriculture and cultural creativity. The mainland has made great progress in the fields of new energy vehicles, solar energy, wind energy and nuclear energy, and both sides have broad development space. Zhang Guobao, a special guest of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the CPC Central Committee, said at the forum that the two sides can strengthen joint technology research and development and innovation, and strengthen joint research and development in wind power generation, solar power generation, high-efficiency energy conservation, and advanced environmental protection technologies.

New energy vehicles and led industries have become the focus of discussion in the forum. In terms of electric vehicles, there is room for cooperation between the two sides in terms of vehicles and batteries. Dong Yang, executive vice president of China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, proposed that the two sides can jointly tackle the common technology of the whole vehicle, jointly research and develop batteries and basic materials, and jointly build a key spare parts supporting system. Huang Longzhou, general manager of Taiwan Vehicle Research and Testing Center, even said that he hopes to create a leader in the international electric vehicle industry through the complementarity of R&D cooperation. In terms of LED, Taiwan has more mature technologies in the upstream areas of industrial chains such as epitaxy and chips, with market share from all over the world. In fact, it also has certain advantages, and the mainland LED industry has also developed rapidly this year, with an annual growth rate of 30%. Both sides can further strengthen cooperation in technology and market.
